As I start to finish the baseline features and systems of the vertical slice I'm preparing to expand a bit more of the game's skill contents, giving more variety to the combat system, but to make sure that I can make, test and balance everything by myself I'm testing out what tools and development processes I would need to work on the game's content in a timely and pleasent manner. This is the reason this update took much longer than the previous ones. I developed a few new skills as a laboratory and took my time programming the tools that I felt were necessary to iron out anything that seemed more cumbersome and slow than was necessary. This includes creating a pipeline to test the auto-battler system automatically, helping me balance new skills and builds, as well as making in-engine tools to review and develop new skills to automate the boiler plate and help maintain the increasing library of "content".
Features:
- Skills now have tags and rarity levels. Skills of a higher level will only develop through mutation if the slime already has at least one skill with a sharing tag of the previous rarity level.
Changes:
- Active skills will also add a very small bonus of some stat.
- The slime's hp has been rebalanced to make sure fights take an average of 2.5 minutes on any level. This will be further improved on the future.
- The difficulty progression of the enemy slimes has been rebalanced and they will get tougher much faster.
- Multiple skills had their stats tweaked to make them a bit more balanced in relation to each other.
Fixes:
- The cooldown of skills will keep advancing when a slime is in attack mode. Previously the cooldowns of any other skill would freeze when the first one was ready to be used.
- Slime and skill tooltips had a bunch of tiny visual fixes and behave much smoother now.
Known Bugs:
- The "dead slimes" UI will sometimes open empty without any of your slimes having died.
- The sorting of the slime's sprites is weird and they will sometimes overlap each other in the wrong order.
- You can click the button to progress to the fight phase even with the tutorial open, which can cause run breaking bugs.
